Stop and Show Love

As we come out the weekend and get into the swing of things with the new week, I just wanted to take a moment to pray for the community of Newtown Connecticut...

Lord, you know there are many hearts that are broken and hurting this morning. Please comfort them. Surround them with your lovingkindness. Help them to find the strength to go on, even in with wake of tragedy. Comfort the parents who now have to find a new normal. Soothe the hearts of the surviving children, that their fears will subside. Continue to bring the community together, encouraging one another. Protect and strengthen those that are stepping in to take care of the victims families. Bring peace to the community, especially so close to the holidays. Though the sorrows may last for the night, Your joy comes with the morning.

As I'm sure many of you are already doing, don't forget to stop and show love to those that are close to you. A lot of parents held their children much closer on Friday, I was no exception. Derek even texted and asked me to give Toby a hug and kiss for him. I can recall many of the other tragedies that have happened in the past, but as a mother I now have a new way of processing things. I definitely wept, hugged and kissed Toby a lot, and held him more than I probably do on any given day. I was reminded to not take for granted every precious and meaningful moment I have with my family and friends.

I also want to encourage you all to remember to show love to those that we don't know. This time of the year can be challenging for many, and a little act of unconditional kindness can go very far. It doesn't matter what holiday you celebrate or don't celebrate, love and kindness does not discriminate. It doesn't have to be elaborate or expensive. Just do it.
